Morocco

I visited Morocco on a weekend coach trip while working in the south of Spain. While it wasn't the independent travel I usually prefer, it was a good way to get a taste of this country on a budget and to see more places than I'd have been able to get around otherwise. And it certainly left me wanting to come back for more!

While the south of Morocco might have matched me initial expectations - lots of desert - the north was very different; it was, in fact, wonderfully green and hilly (and in places, even mountainous). Wondering around the narrow maze of the streets in the city centers was quite an experience, the sellers following you down the street with their offerings (which, often, was hash - illegal, but grown in large quantities anyway) and trying to convince you to buy. One guy on the tour brought some just to make a particularly bothersome guy go away - and made sure to smoke it before we tried to cross the border back into Spain!

There are other highly rated cities in Morocco that I didn't get chance to see yet - Fez, Marrakesh and Casablanca. I hope to get chance to visit them in the not too distant future, and spend some time wondering around this country independently.
