Home to some really great beer served by the liter, and more types of sausage than I could have imagine existed, Germany certainly satisfies the stomach. Down in the south, there are castles and mountains to satisfy the eyes too. Most cities were ravaged during two World Wars, and many things that look old often are recreations or restorations, but in places (such as Nuremberg) this has been done quite nicely and feels quite authentic.
Germany is one of the leading countries in Europe when it comes to high speed railways, and you can zip about the country comfortably and quickly. I grabbed a railway pass and visited quite a few places this way.
